Core Benefits
SDSU provides employees and eligible dependents with a health care program that is flexible, accessible, and affordable. A Benefits Services representative will provide an overview of your options and assist with the benefit election process on your first day.
Time Off
SDSU offers a generous paid time off benefit of 15 paid holidays, 12 sick leave days, and 10-24 paid vacation days per year, as well as 20–30 days of paid parental leave. Learn more about Leaves of Absence and Time Off.
Medical
You may choose from a variety of HMO and PPO plans, all with access to our region's most respected medical providers. Monthly employee contributions vary depending upon insurance and level of coverage selected. Below are some resources to help you understand the various options and associated premiums.
Note: If you are eligible for medical coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as outlined in your offer letter, you will be able to make your medical plan elections and/or enroll in FlexCash (Medical only) on your first day.
Dental
Delta Dental provides comprehensive dental care with no monthly premium for you and your eligible dependents. You may select a DMO panel dentist or a PPO dentist of your choosing. Both plans cover in-network preventative services at 100%, and you will receive coverage information specific to your employee group during the benefits orientation. Vision
You are also eligible for two vision coverage plans through Vision Service Plan (VSP), which has a nationwide network of providers. You and your eligible dependents are automatically enrolled in the zero-premium VSP Basic Plan. You also have the option to enroll in the VSP Premier Plan (monthly premiums vary depending on enrollment level). Please review the VSP Brochure for a comparison of these plans.
Employer-Paid Life, AD&D, LTD
SDSU provides employer-paid income protection benefits for eligible employees. For information about this coverage, please vist The Standard website.
Employee Assistance Program
LifeMatters is SDSU's Employee Assistance Program and work/life resource. LifeMatters offers you 24/7, confidential access to resources and clinically trained counselors. FlexCash
FlexCash is an optional benefit plan that allows an employee to waive SDSU medical and/or dental insurance coverage in exchange for a cash payment, provided you have medical and/or dental coverage that is not offered by the CSU. The FlexCash Plan pays $128 per month in lieu of medical and $12 per month in lieu of dental coverages, as taxable income.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care expenses allow you to to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses with pre-tax dollars, lowering your taxable income and saving money. Each year, you may make contributions up to the federally-established annual maximums and access your account(s) with the ease of a debit card or direct deposit reimbursement.
In addition to the Dependent Care Reimbursement Account, CSU provides a 10% savings on full-time, part-time, and drop-in tuition at KinderCare centers near you or at Champions before- and after-school programs.
